Great British Bake Off star Tom Hetherington has held a baking class in Edinburgh to raise money for Maggie's Centre.

The baking show contestant appeared at his sister's tea shop, Clarinda's Tearoom, to help launch Maggie's Kitchen Table Day 2018.

Kitchen Table Day encourages people nationwide to host events around their kitchen table - be it at work or at home - all to raise money for people living with cancer.

Mr Hetherington is a supporter of Maggie's, having worked as an architect on the extension to the Maggie's Edinburgh Centre and will be running this year's London Marathon in aid of the charity.

He said: "I am delighted to be supporting Maggie's by helping launch 2018's Kitchen Table Day and running the London marathon.

"Working as an architect for the new extension to Maggie's Edinburgh I have seen just how essential the support Maggie's offers is for people affected by cancer and what a difference it makes to their lives.

"Cancer impacts so many lives that I am just pleased to be able to do something to help."

Laura Lee, chief executive of Maggie's said: "We're thrilled that Mr Hetherington is celebrating Maggie's Kitchen Table Day with us this year, and helping us to support all those who are living with cancer.

"His cakes are perfect to share with a cup of tea, which is exactly what we want everyone to do for Kitchen Table Day, so we hope everyone involved enjoys making - and tasting - his recipes.

"Maggie's relies entirely on voluntary donations to allow us to keep on developing our unique programme of free support for people living with cancer.

"We're very grateful for everyone's support in raising vital funds that will really make a difference everyday at our Centres across the UK."

Maggie's provides practical and emotional support for all those living with cancer, with 22 Centres across the UK and abroad, and more planned for the future.
