Police have arrested 18 men after a motorbike gang caused chaos across Edinburgh.

Officers have been investigating several crimes and cases of anti-social behaviour across the city on Saturday, January 13.

These included a collision with two pedestrians in Drylaw and damage being caused to the Jack Kane centre in Niddrie.

Police Scotland launched Operation Pellucid in order to track down those responsible, and executed several dawn raids.

A total of 18 arrests have been made with more than 70 charges issued, mostly for road traffic offences, as well as 12 anti-social behaviour orders.

The men arrested are aged between 15 and 47.

Chief inspector Gill Geany said: "This has been a significant operation and rightly so, given the considerable disruption caused to communities right across the capital back in January.

"After a thorough investigation we obtained eight warrants and teams of officers went through doors culminating early on Thursday morning.

"People living in various communities will have noticed our activity and I want to thank them for their support both in speaking to us and providing information whilst we were carrying out our investigation - remove, and last week."

She continued: "The behaviour seen on January 13 was appalling and inconsiderate and affected thousands of people. People were injured and such disorder simply will not be tolerated.

"I'm pleased to say that what happened is not at all reflective of the motorcycle community in Edinburgh and the Lothians and we continue to work closely with them to ensure they can enjoy their pastime safely."
