The roof of a former cinema has been blown off by strong winds, forcing a road to be closed.

Officers have shut down Bo'ness Road in Grangemouth, Falkirk, after the roof of the former La Scala Cinema came off.

The incident happened at 8am on Thursday.

The council is assessing the damage to the building, which has been empty since April 2008.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "The wind has damaged the roof.

"Corrugated sheets are blowing about.

"The road has been closed over fears for pedestrians."
