A woman suffered a head injury after she was knocked down by a bus in Princes Street, Edinburgh.

The pedestrian was struck around 11.30am on Friday at The Mound.

Police said the 40-year-old woman was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

She continues to be treated at the hospital.

A police spokeswoman said: "Inquiries into the full circumstances of this incident are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to come forward."

The road was closed eastbound for around an hour as emergency services were at the scene.

A spokesman for the Scottish Ambulance Service said: "We dispatched a paramedic response unit and one ambulance to the scene.

"One female patient was transported to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh."
