A motorcyclist has died after crashing into a parked car in the Scottish Borders.

The 30-year-old man crashed his orange KTM motorcycle into a parked blue Kia Sportage on Eildon Road in Hawick on Saturday.

The motorcyclist died at Borders General Hospital after being admitted with serious injuries.

The road was closed in both directions for around five hours while investigations were carried out.

Officers are now urging anyone who can assist with the investigation to come forward.

Constable Peter Scott said: "This incident has tragically resulted in the death of a man and our sympathies are with his family at this difficult time.

"Enquiries continue to establish the full circumstances surrounding the collision and anyone who witnessed this, or who saw the motorcycle beforehand, is urged to contact us as soon as possible."
