An artist has launched a new exhibition in an Edinburgh park that you would be forgiven for overlooking.

Puzzle in the Gardens has been created by Anne Gilchrist who discreetly placed 22 jigsaw pieces among the trees.

The exhibition in Princes Street Gardens, which will run until mid-September, aims to urge members of the public to connect more with nature.

Ms Gilchrist said: "I have called it puzzle because I wanted to be quite ambiguous, I also want it to feel quite hidden and quite quiet.

"It is quite sort of self effacing and not in your face .

"The best thing I would like someone to do is to discover the pieces for themselves"

Anne is not expecting many people to notice her work and describes herself as the opposite of a graffiti artist.

She said: "I love the idea that people will just not notice them at all, I think that's going to be the biggest compliment for me. I like the idea of being hidden in plain sight."

Anne began studying the gardens in February when the winter conditions were at their worst with most trees completely bare but made repeated visits to make sure she got the colours exactly right.

After months of hard work and study the pieces are now on display in the gardens which are in full bloom.

Members of the public are not encouraged to piece the jigsaw together but rather to appreciate the connectivity each section has to nature.
