A knifeman is on the run after absconding from a psychiatric hospital.

Paul Brownlie, who suffers from schizophrenia, fled the Royal Edinburgh Hospital on Wednesday October 3 and hasn't been seen since.

He was originally detained after a knife attack in the Tranent area of Edinburgh when he was 17.

Brownlie is described as being 6ft 1in tall, with a medium build and short brown hair. He was wearing denim jeans, green T-shirt, white jumper and navy blue trainers when he escaped.

A Scottish Government official said: "We are keen to trace this man as soon as possible. Although he is not considered to be a high risk of harm, the public are advised not to approach him."

Brownlie also absconded in 2014 but handed himself into the police soon after.

If anyone sees him, or has any information regarding his whereabouts, they should contact Police Scotland on 101.
