The bodies of a man and a woman have been found in a flat in Fife.

The discovery was made in Forres Drive in Glenrothes at 6pm on Thursday.

A 48-year-old man and a woman, 37, were found unresponsive in the flat and were pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers have cordoned off the block of flats while investigations are being carried out.

The deaths are being treated as unexplained.

Chief inspector Scott Cunningham said: "The families of the man and woman have been informed and will be kept fully updated as our enquiries progress.

"We understand the local community will have questions and concerns, and I want to reassure people that we're doing all we can to establish the circumstances surrounding their deaths."

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokeswoman added: "We received a call at 6.01pm on Thursday, October 4, to attend an incident on Forres Drive in Glenrothes.

"We dispatched one ambulance to the scene."
