A 92-year-old woman has died after being struck by a car.

Christina Young, from Edinburgh, was hit by a Mercedes GL car on Southhouse Avenue in Edinburgh at 8am on Tuesday.

She was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary in a critical condition following the incident.

The pedestrian later died in hospital.

Police are now appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.

Constable Declan Fitzpatrick, from the Edinburgh Road Policing Unit, said: "Our sincerest sympathies are with Christina's family and friends at this time and our investigation to establish the full circumstances of the collision are ongoing.

"I would again appeal for members of the public with information, or motorists with relevant dash-cam footage to contact police immediately."
