A man has been arrested after a mistreated dog which could barely walk was found near a Tesco in West Lothian.

The abandoned pet was discovered on a roundabout near the supermarket on Blackburn Road, Bathgate, in the early hours of Monday September 3.

The dog was found to be severely malnourished with its ribs visible and had cuts and untreated abscesses on its body.

A 41-year-old man has now been charged in connection with the abandonment of the animal which had to be put down due to its injuries.

PC Kat MacKay of Bathgate Police Station said: "We are very grateful to the public for their support and assistance with our investigation.

"A 41-year-old man has now been charged in connection with this and is expected to appear at Livingston Sheriff Court on Monday October 22."
