A 15-year-old schoolboy has been charged with stabbing a female teacher in the neck with a sharpened pencil.

The fourth-year pupil has been reported to a children's panel after allegedly attacking and embedding the pencil into the left side of the woman's neck in front of a full classroom in Fife last month.

The teacher was left with minor injuries and is said to be recovering following the incident on September 25.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "Police in Fife have charged a 15-year-old boy with the assault of a female teacher.

"A report has been submitted to the children's reporter."
