Two veterans with sight loss are proving that it's never too late to find new love after getting engaged in their 80s.

Morton Paton, aged 88, and Marjorie Ramage, aged 83, became close when they met at Scottish War Blinded's Linburn Centre in West Lothian two years ago.

After bonding over a love of art and a shared sense of humour, the pair fell for each other when Morton offered to warm Marjorie's hands in his on a bus journey.

They have mascular degeneration, an eye condition which can result in blurred or no vision in the centre of the visual field.

They are also both military veterans with Morton having completed National Service in the Royal Air Force and Marjorie serving in the Women's Royal Army Corps for several years.

After a year of dating, the couple have announced their engagement after Morton proposed while on holiday in Jersey.

The couple decided to get engaged after Morton said "Do you fancy it?", to which Marjorie replied "Aye, I fancy it".

The couple currently travel between Morton's home in Selkirk and Marjorie's home in Rosewell and are planning to move in together soon.

They said coming to the Linburn centre means they always have fun with the other members and the shared understanding of sight loss is similar to the camaraderie they felt when they served in the forces.

The loved-up couple are planning to marry in a low-key ceremony on Morton's birthday in January
