An 80-year old woman has died and two people have been seriously injured after a crash in East Lothian.

It is believed that one of the cars involved in the crash was travelling in the wrong direction.

The collision happened at around 4:30pm on Saturday when a Toyota Yaris collided with a Renault Megane on the A1 between Gladsmuir and Abbotsview.

The 80-year-old woman driving the Yaris sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 30-year-old driver of the Renault and his 31-year-old female passenger were also seriously injured and have been taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment.

A four-year-old boy, who was a passenger in the Megane, was taken to the Sick Kids Hospital as a precaution.

Police Scotland have appealed for anybody with information on the incident to contact them on 101.
