Football teams have paid tribute to a teenage player killed in a car crash at the weekend.

Ethan King died in the smash on the A915 Standing Stane Road between Kirkcaldy and Methilhill in Fife.

The 18-year-old was pronounced dead shortly before 8.45am on Sunday.

His friend, Connor Aird, 17, is fighting for his life at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary while Danny Stevens, 18, is in a serious but stable condition.

Another 18-year-old man was seriously injured and was arrested following the crash.

Mr King played for Glenrothes Athletic under-19s, who have described him as a "crucial member" of the team.

In a post on Facebook, they said: "It is with great sadness that we have to announce the passing of our under 19s player Ethan King, who tragically died in a car accident this morning.

"Ethan has been a member of the team for many years, progressing through from seven-a-side to our under 19s squad, and was a crucial member of the treble winning team in season 2016/17.

"The thoughts and prayers of everyone at the club are with Ethan's family at this difficult time.

"RIP Ethan. Teammates forever."

Other clubs have also paid their respects.

Glenrothes Juniors said: "On behalf of everyone at Glenrothes Juniors Football Club we send our sincere condolences to the family of Ethan King and Glenrothes Athletic.

"Our thoughts and Prayers are with you at this sad time. RIP Ethan."

Glenrothes Rovers added: "All at The Reds wish to pass on their condolences to the families of the boys involved in this morning's tragic road accident and to Glenrothes Athletic."
