An urgent appeal has been issued after an elderly war veteran lost a medal during Remembrance Sunday.

The Croix de la Legion d'Honneur disappeared at a service of remembrance at Strathblane War Memorial at 11am.

The medal is the highest military honour awarded by France for the gentleman's actions during the D-Day invasion on June 6, 1944.

Sergeant David McNally said: "Efforts to trace the lost medal have so far been unsuccessful and the owner is extremely distressed by its loss.

"We would appeal to anyone who may have any information as to the location of this honour to contact us as soon as possible."

Anyone with information is asked to contact 101.
