A pensioner has been left seriously injured after being struck by a car in Edinburgh.

Emergency crews were called to Sir Harry Lauder Road, Portobello, at around 12.15pm after a 74-year-old man was hit by the vehicle.

Officers remain at the area which has been cordoned off and paramedics treated the man at the scene.

He was then taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for further treatment.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "At around 12.15pm we received reports of a collision between a pedestrian and a vehicle on Sir Harry Lauder Road.

"Emergency services remain at the scene and a man in his 70s is being treated by paramedics.

"The road remains closed."
