A 16-year-old boy has been arrested after a flare was set off at the Livingston v Hearts match.

The incident happened in the home end during the Scottish Premiership match at the Tony Macaroni Arena on Friday.

Police are investigating a further two incidents, one in the home end and one in the away stand.

Inspector Neil Mitchell said: "I would like to thank the vast majority of home and visiting fans for their cooperation with police and security staff at Friday's game.

"It is disappointing, however, that a small minority of people continue to bring items into stadiums which risk the safety of others, as well as cause disruption to the game."

Inspector Mitchell added: "Fortunately, on this occasion, no one was injured however be assured that all incidents of this nature will be treated with the utmost seriousness.

"The consequences for those who do choose to bring pyrotechnics into football matches include being arrested and charged, as well as receiving a football banning order."

A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.
