A man was arrested over the discovery of a suspicious package in an Edinburgh street.

A bomb squad was called to Annandale Street after the alarm was raised at around 11.50am on Friday.

Police cordoned off the scene and advised members of the public to avoid the area.

The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team carried out a controlled explosion at 2.50pm.

On Wednesday, police confirmed a 37-year-old man had been arrested in connection with the incident and later released pending further inquiries.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "A 37-year-old man has been arrested in connection a suspicious item found in Annandale Street on Friday, March 1.

"He has been released pending further inquiries and the investigation into this incident is continuing.

"Anyone with information is asked to come forward."
