A man has died after falling from a moving pick-up truck in the Borders.

The 61-year-old pedestrian suffered fatal head injuries following the incident in Angraflat Road, Kelso, during the early hours of Sunday morning.

The man and the driver, who are known to one another, had been in discussion before he reportedly fell off the vehicle as it travelled slowly.

Emergency services were called to the scene before he was taken to Borders General Hospital, where he was found to have sustained serious head injuries.

He was pronounced dead later that morning.

The incident is now being treated as a fatal collision and the Road Policing Unit are conducting an investigation into his death.

Sergeant Fraser Wood said: "This has been a tragic loss of a man's life and our condolences are with all those affected.

"As with any fatal collision, enquiries are underway to establish the full circumstances.

"We'd urge anyone who may have witnessed this, or who saw either the pedestrian or the vehicle in the area beforehand, to contact us."
