An asbestos warning was issued to residents of a town near Edinburgh as a fire gutted a park pavilion.

The building in Allison Park, Kirkliston, was destroyed in the blaze, which happened at 9pm on Friday.

Three fire engines were called to the scene, with one officer staying on site until 3am on Saturday to ensure the area was safe.

Police advised residents to stay indoors and to keep their windows shut as asbestos was believed to be in the building.

The cause of the blaze is yet to be established.

It is the second time the pavilion has been damaged in fire. It housed a playgroup until a similar blaze two years ago, and has been sitting empty ever since.
