A driver has been arrested and charged after a motorcyclist was airlifted to hospital following a crash on the A9 in Perthshire.

The road near Aberuthven was closed on Sunday night following the smash between the biker and a silver Vauxhall Insignia at around 8.35pm.

The motorcyclist came off his bike and suffered serious leg injuries. He remains in hospital undergoing medical treatment.

Police confirmed that the 54-year-old male driver of the Insignia was arrested and charged with a number of offences and is due to appear at Perth Sheriff Court on Monday.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "Although we have spoken with a number of witnesses already, as part of our ongoing collision investigation enquiries we would still like to speak with anyone who witnessed the incident or what happened immediately beforehand or afterwards.

"If anyone has dashcam footage, this would be particularly useful."
