A badly decomposed body has been found in a block of flats.

Emergency services were called to Dumbiedykes Road in Edinburgh at 7am on Friday after concerns were raised for a person.

A body, which had been in the flat for some time, was discovered.

Police had been called to the home in January after concerns were raised but later left the scene.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "Police in Edinburgh responded to an address in Dumbiedykes Road at about 7am on Friday following a report of concern for an occupant.

"On arrival, officers found the body of a person within and the death is being treated as unexplained.

"Enquiries are continuing and ongoing and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal."

Officers remain at the scene while investigations are carried out.

He added: "We can confirm a previous call was made to this address on January 30 and enquiries in relation to this matter are ongoing."
