Hearts player Ryan Stevenson says drink-driving was 'huge mistake'
The midfielder was stopped driving away from Elliots nightclub in Prestwick when he was almost three times the limit.
Hearts footballer Ryan Stevenson has publicly apologised after admitting drink-driving, saying it was a "huge mistake".
The midfielder was stopped when police received a tip-off he had gotten into his car after drinking at Elliots nightclub in Prestwick, Ayrshire on April 7.
He pleaded guilty to driving while almost three times over the limit at Ayr Sheriff Court on Monday and was banned for 20 months and fined £1500.
On Tuesday, Stevenson released a statement through Hearts News apologising to the club and its fans.
He said: "I know I made a huge mistake and let down my family, the football club and its supporters and for that I sincerely apologise.
"I accept the consequences of my actions. I acknowledge that I am a role model for younger supporters and team-mates and as such, my serious error of judgement was not befitting of such a position."
