Body found on beach in search for elderly man missing from home
Thomas Semple had not been seen since leaving his home in Lundin Links, Fife on Thursday.
A body has been found in the search for an elderly man who went missing from his Fife home.
Thomas Semple was last seen leaving his house in Lundin Links at 3.30pm on Thursday.
The 85-year-old, who left his walking stick at home, had not been seen since.
He used to be a regular dog walker in the golf course and coastal areas around Lundin Links and a major operation covered the area around the village, helped by RAF search and rescue.
On Friday, the coastguard found the body of a man on the beach at Lower Largo at 4am.
Mr Semple's family have been informed of the discovery and a formal identification process is now under way.
Inspector Jim Davenport said: "We can confirm that an unidentified body has been found and that the inquiry is at a very early stage.
"The death is currently being treated as unexplained, pending the results of a post-mortem examination.
"We will continue to keep the family of Thomas Semple updated with the progress of this inquiry.”
