New images released of hotel proposed for old Royal High School
Developers want to build a hotel on the site on Calton Hill, Edinburgh.
New images have been released of what a hotel proposed for Edinburgh’s old Royal High School would look like.
The pictures show the effect the development would have on the skyline on Calton Hill, showing the view from Holyrood Park.
They have been released as the second exhibition starts as part of the public consultation into the project.
Developers Duddingston House Properties and Urbanist Group are holding the exhibition at the building on Thursday and Friday.
The first exhibition in February saw 600 people attending and developers say 76% were in support of the proposals.
Architect Gareth Hoskins said he wanted to make sure the hotel did not impact the view.
He said: "We've created a great deal of space around Hamilton’s strong sculptural building so it becomes the central focus.
"The scale of the new symmetrical buildings either side of the centrepiece draws from Hamilton’s architectural language in the use of the stone in a stylised contemporary colonnade.
"As the former school is the focal point of the amazing stage set of Calton Hill, we’ve take great care to make sure none of the new elements break the skyline or conflict with the other monuments on this dramatic backdrop."
The consultation is taking place inside the old Royal High School from 10am to 7pm on Thursday and Friday.
Planning permission will be submitted to the City of Edinburgh Council once the public consultation has finished.
