A church organist has said he is humbled after a moving performance of one of David Bowie's biggest hits was shared thousands of times online - sending many in to tears.

Nicholas Freestone, organ scholar at St Albans Cathedral in Hertfordshire, was hailed for his "breathtaking" rendition of the 1970s single Life on Mars, posted on Facebook hours after news of the music icon's death was made public.

One commenter, Pat Fowler, wrote: "Nicholas Freestone. Sir that was stunning. Marvellous tribute, wonderfully played. A great tribute to David Bowie and a great tribute showing how diverse his music is. Thank you. Sent chills down my spine."
