Actor David Margulies, best known for his role in Ghostbusters, has died aged 78.

Mr Margulies was instantly recognisable to Ghostbusters fans as the mayor of New York in the 1984 cult film.

He also starred as Tony Soprano's lawyer in TV series The Sopranos.

Mr Margulies died of cancer, The New York Times said, citing comments from his sister.

Ivan Reitman, who directed Ghostbusters, paid tribute to the late star, describing him as "an extraordinary actor both on screen and on stage".
