Trainspotting stars have recreated one of the film's most iconic scenes on the streets of Edinburgh.

Ewan McGregor and Ewan Bremner resumed their roles as Renton and Spud as they ran down Princes Street and the surrounding area on Wednesday.

Shoppers looked on in shock as they watched the stars film for T2, the sequel to the cult classic Trainspotting.

They were spotted running out of Urban Outfitters on the west end of Princes Street, which was reported to have been transformed into an Apple store for the day.

This echoed the opening scene of the first film, in which Renton runs out of John Menzies while a voiceover chants the "Choose Life" mantra.

The pair were later filmed sprinting down Greenside Row beside the Omni Centre leisure complex.

Delighted shoppers took to social media to share pictures and videos of the celebrities.

The original cast have been spotted in a variety of locations in Edinburgh and Glasgow since filming started for T2 in May, including Edinburgh Airport and the Scottish Parliament.

Director Danny Boyle has said the screenplay is loosely based on author Irvine Welsh's sequel to the Trainspotting novel, Porno, and revisits the original characters 20 years on.

Robert Carlyle, who will resume his role as Begbie, said last year that the script was one of the best he has seen.

The film is due for release at the beginning of next year.
