The star-studded cast of Trainspotting is expected to descend on Glasgow as filming for the much-awaited sequel continues.

It is understood director Danny Boyle has earmarked Stobcross Road near the Riverside Museum for the latest round of filming on Friday night.

Avid fans of the cult 1996 film have been following the progress of the shoot, with members of the original cast being spotted in various locations in the central belt.

On Wednesday, shoppers were surprised to see Ewan McGregor and Ewan Bremner running down Princes Street in Edinburgh in a reprisal of their roles as Renton and Spud.

Filming has already taken place outside the Scottish Parliament and in Pollokshields in the south side of Glasgow.

Robert Carlyle, who is resuming his role as psychotic Francis Begbie, previously revealed the film would be shot "50-50" between Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Stobcross Road will be closed from Congress Way to the Riverside Museum from 11.30pm on Friday night.

Filming will continue until around 3am, when the road will reopen.
