The director of hit films Pretty Woman and The Princess Diaries, Garry Marshall, has died aged 81.

Marshall, an American actor and director, also created the American TV sitcom Happy Days, which aired from 1974 to 1984.

Alongside Pretty Woman, he directed Runaway Bride - which also starred Julia Roberts and Richard Gere.

Marshall's other notable credits as film director included Valentine's Day, New Year's Eve and Mother's Day.

He also played a small acting role in James Bond classic Goldfinger in 1964.

His cause of death has not yet been confirmed.
