Christopher Biggins has apologised for remarks he made about Aids and bisexuals that saw him removed from the Celebrity Big Brother House.

The entertainer was thrown out by the reality show's organisers after what they said was his third use of "unacceptable language".

After hearing the news an emotional Biggins said he was "very sorry ... [and] very sad".

His removal, which came ahead of the show's first official eviction, was announced on Friday, but at the time Channel 5 offered no comment on what it was Biggins had said.

It later transpired he had made a comment alluding to the Holocaust to fellow housemate Katie Waissel, and described Aids as "a bisexual disease" that was "man-made".

He told the Sun on Sunday that he had apologised to Waissel in person and he had been left "mortified" by the incident.

Biggins appeared to be popular in the house and his forced eviction was received with shock by the other housemates.

EastEnders actor Ricky Norwood said a prayer for Biggins and helped DJ James Whale pack up the entertainer's belongings, while Sam Fox burst into tears.
