David Beckham has completed the viral 22 Push-Up Challenge on an plane at 44,000 feet.

The former footballer accepted the challenge to do 22 press-ups for 22 days to raise awareness of suicide among military veterans, after being nominated by his friend Guy Ritchie.

In an Instagram post, Beckham wrote: "22 service men kill themselves post conflict... 22 a day, basically 1 an hour."

He added that he was joining others, including Ritchie, in doing the challenge to support, respect and appreciate the sacrifices of servicemen and women.

"We shine a light to support and help save lives," he wrote.

After finishing his mini workout, Beckham boasted: "And by the way, that was at 44,000 feet, Mr Ritchie."

Ritchie, 48, had increased the difficulty of his own push-ups on day 2 of his challenge by completing them with his daughter Rivka on his back.

Beckham has tagged Justin Theroux and his 17-year-old son Brooklyn ro nominate them to begin the challenge.

A host of stars have embraced #22pushups, including actors Jason Statham, Chris Pratt, Dwayne Johnson, Anna Faris and John Krasinski.

The craze follows in the footsteps of the Ice Bucket Challenge, which saw millions around the globe being doused in freezing water to raise awareness of motor neurone disease.

The campaign raised millions and been credited with leading to a scientific breakthrough.
