The Killers made a surprise appearance at Glastonbury as the festival drew to a close on Sunday.

The rock band took the secret act slot on the John Peel stage - 10 years since they suffered a disastrous headline slot at the festival marred by serious sound problems.

Frontman Brandon Flowers had reportedly vowed he would never return to the festival after the gig.

Huge crowds rushed to the stage - one of the smaller at the festival - as rumours spread they were making a return.

They were among the final acts for the iconic music event.

Singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran closed the festival as the final act on the main stage.

Sunday also saw performances from Bee Gee Barry Gibb, Shaggy, Chic and Boy Better Know.

Pop star Katy Perry, the Foo Fighters and Radiohead were among the dozens of acts over the weekend.

There was also an unlikely star turn from the Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, who was met by huge cheering crowds earlier in the weekend.

Another unusual twist saw visitors not dealing with the usual sea of mud but instead a heatwave.

A number of people needed medical treatment after they were caught out by record temperatures for June.

The festival is set to take a break in 2018 to allow the site, village and wildlife time to rest before 200,000 people descend on it for the event in 2019.
