Hollywood actor Chris Pine has been spotted in Glasgow filming action-packed scenes on the set of a new Netflix period drama.

The film star, 37, who is playing legendary Scottish king Robert The Bruce, was seen filming scenes of the Outlaw King outside Glasgow Cathedral.

The area has been turned into a 14th century battle ground by the film crew, who brought medieval armour and horses to the 800-year-old building as they shot the scenes on Tuesday evening.

A world away from his role as Captain Kirk in Star Trek, Pine sported long hair and a grey beard as he galloped through the cathedral grounds with his fellow troops.

The American actor, who also stars in Horrible bosses 2, was seen suited in chain mail armour from the medieval age.

The big budget Netflix film, based on the life of Robert the Bruce and his clashes with the English army, also features Avengers star Aaron Taylor-Johnson.

Hollywood A-lister Pine looked to be enjoying his new role as he was seen laughing and smiling while leading his troops around the cathedral on horseback.

Outlaw King, described as "a true David and Goliath story", is due to be released next year.

Filming has also taken place near Linlithgow, West Lothian, and is expected to continue at various locations across Scotland until November.

Scottish director David Mackenzie, whose previous film Hell Or High Water was nominated for best picture at the Oscars, is at the helm for Outlaw King.

The production advertised for "bearded extras" in Scotland earlier this year as they looked to fill the roles of Scottish and English medieval soldiers.
