Calvin Harris has been nominated for an award at the upcoming American Music Awards.

The Scottish DJ has been nominated in the Best Electronic Dance Music artist category at the prestigious award ceremony that will take place in Los Angeles on November 19.

The nominees for the six categories were announced for the 45th annual awards show on Good Morning America on Thursday.

The 33-year-old Dumfries born musician has been a massive hit in the states with a host of top selling albums, including Ready For The Weekend and Motion, and a string of collaborations with A-list superstars such as Katy Perry and Rihanna.

He announced the nomination to his 12.5m Twitter followers saying "Thank you @AMAs for the nomination"

Other nominated acts hoping to pick up awards at the Microsoft Theatre event include English singer Ed Sheeran, U2, Beyonce, Coldplay and Lady Gaga.

Irish rockers U2 are nominated for the tour of the year award with Ed Sheeran picking up four nominations including Artist and Video of the year.

Former One Direction star Niall Horan is nominated for best new artist and Coldplay for best group.
