Edinburgh-born Shirley Manson will be honoured at the NME Awards for her music and activism.

The Garbage frontwoman, 51, said she was "shocked and delighted" by the tribute.

Manson will be presented with the Icon Award later this month.

The singer has enjoyed a career in music, spanning three decades, and had produced six studio albums with Garbage.

Last year she was named activist of the year by Forbes magazine after speaking out on a range of issues including cruelty against animals, AIDS research and cancer.

She has lent her weight to pro-LGBT and the #metoo campaigns.

The NME Awards will take place on February 14 in London with Alt-J, Skepta and Liam Gallagher taking to the stage.
