A new festival celebrating Scottish music has been announced for Inverness.

The festival, named The Gathering, will be held at the Northern Meeting Park on Saturday, June 1, 2019.

It will feature a host of traditional and folk bands from across Scotland, as well as local food and family entertainment.

Headlining will be Tide Lines, a folk band hailing from the Highlands who have amassed a large social media following and already have more than three million streams online.

Other acts confirmed include The Vatersay Boys, Elephant Sessions, folk singer Siobhan Miller, The Trad Project and The City of Inverness Youth Pipe Band.

Bars at the event will feature Scottish craft beers, whisky and gin together with a range of local food .

Dougie Brown, who is working on the festival, said: 'We are delighted to be launching a brand-new city centre event for Inverness and hope The Gathering becomes a permanent fixture in the Scottish event calendar.

"We have a wealth of musical talent and incredible food & drink producers across the Highlands and Scotland and through The Gathering we aim to bring everyone together and celebrate the very best our region has to offer.'

Tickets went on sale on Friday morning at the Eden Court Theatre and the Ironworks in Inverness.
