A man has been airlifted to hospital after he was hit by a tree in the Highlands.

The man was felling trees two miles north of Letterfinlay when the accident happened on Thursday morning.

He is understood to have suffered a non-life threatening neck injury and was found conscious and breathing.

The man was taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness and the A82 was shut between Laggan and Letterfinlay for several hours.

Following the incident, a Police Scotland spokesman said: "An air ambulance is attending for a medical matter two miles north of Letterfinlay.

"A man was felling trees and tree fell onto him. He has been hit in the neck so they decided to airlift him to hospital. A temporary road closure has been put in place until the air ambulance arrives."
