A climber who died in hospital after being rescued from an avalanche has been named.

Adrian David Bankart, known as Dave, visited the area from Derbyshire.

The 54-year-old was one of two people who were airlifted to hospital following the avalanche in the Creag Meagaidh area of north Lochaber. The second male climber remains in a serious but stable condition in Belford Hospital, Fort William.

A police spokesman said the family of Mr Bankart wanted to thank all emergency services and mountain rescue personnel who were involved in the incident.

A coastguard helicopter, several mountain rescue teams and search and rescue dogs were all scrambled to the mountain range, which around 19 miles north east of Ben Nevis, after being alerted to the incident on Wednesday.
