No decision has been made over the future of two axe-threatened mining plants, bosses say.

Around 150 jobs are at risk at Rio Tinto facilities in Fort William and Kinlochleven as the firm reviews its operations north of the border.

Scottish ministers met Rio Tinto bosses on Wednesday to seek assurances from the London-based company.

Following the discussions, Highlands and Islands Labour MSP Rhoda Grant said no decision has been made.

She said: "It was useful to have Rio Tinto's reassurance that they have made no decision.

"I feel reassured that they understand the value of the jobs and that they were talking about working with Highlands and Islands Enterprise and Highland Council."

Rio Tinto recently announced strong results for 2015 despite what it described as a "challenging market backdrop" for the mining industry.

The British-Australian firm has reported making $6.2bn worth of cuts over the last three years.
