New searches are taking place on Saturday for a couple missing on Ben Nevis.

Rachel Slater, 24, and Tim Newton, 27, failed to return from a trip to the mountain on February 14.

Major searches have taken place for the couple, but bad weather and a risk of avalanches has made efforts difficult. On Saturday, Police Scotland announced a 37-person team had resumed the search.

The force said weather conditions were very favourable and the search is expected to go on all day.

Climbers and walkers on the UK's highest peak were advised to be mindful of the activity and report anything which may help to police on 101.

Mountain rescue teams from Lochaber, Oban, Dundonnel, Cairngorm and Skye are involved in the search along with specially trained dogs.

Earlier in the week a search using drones was called off due to the difficult weather conditions.

Mr Newton was a member of Hinckley Mountaineering Club in Leicestershire before moving away to university.

Ms Slater is a graduate of Manchester University and works as an environmental consultant near Bradford, West Yorkshire.

She previously lived and climbed in Canada, where her parents still live.

Their families have praised the overwhelming response from members of the public and the climbing community.
