An unidentified body has been found lying on a Highland beach, police say.

The remains were discovered at Nairn Beach, 15 miles north east of Inverness, on Tuesday morning.

Work is now under way to identify the body and police have contacted the families of local missing people.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Following a report from a member of the public this morning, a body has been recovered from the shoreline at Nairn Beach.

“Police are contacting the next of kin of all current missing people. A further update will be issued when formal identification is complete.”
