The family of a man missing in the Highlands for three weeks has asked him to come home.

Jason Gates was last seen in the Aviemore area on March 12 and was reported missing a few days later.

The 36-year-old's family say they are growing "increasingly anxious" and have asked him to contact them.

A jacket belonging to Mr Gates was found west of Drumnadrochit earlier this month, near where Mr Gates' dog Max was found on March 15.

The spaniel is believed to have been responsible for the deaths of three sheep before he was handed over to officers.

Mr Gates' family said: "As a family, we're very grateful to members of the emergency services and search and rescue personnel who continue the search for Jason.

"We'd like to thank members of the local community for their assistance and to everyone who has shared the appeal via social media.

"It's been over three weeks since we've heard from Jason and we are increasingly anxious.

"We'd also like to appeal to Jason directly: if you can see this message, please make contact so we know you're OK. We just want you to be safe and to be reunited as a family.

"As the search continues, we remain hopeful Jason will be found and reiterate our thanks to everyone involved in the search.

"Any information, no matter how small or insignificant it may seem, may assist in bringing Jason back to us and so we would urge anyone who can help to get in touch."

Mr Gates is around 6ft 3in, with short grey hair. He is thought to have been wearing dark clothing and walking boots when he vanished.

Police have asked anyone who has any information about Mr Gates' disappearance to contact them on 101.
