The owners of a crab trawler that sank off the Outer Hebrides are "devastated" by the deaths of two of its crew.

Chris Morrison, 27, and Martin Johnstone, 29, died when the Louisa sank at anchor near Mingulay, south of Barra, on Saturday.

Paul Alliston, 42, remains missing despite a major search operation over the weekend.

Lachlan Armstrong, 27, survived after swimming to shore when the boat's life raft failed to inflate and was rescued from Mingulay by the coastguard.

Owners Duncan and Murdo Kennedy said: "We are totally devastated at the loss of Paul, Chris and Martin due to the tragic sinking off Mingulay last Saturday.

"Our thoughts, sympathy and prayers are with Paul's family in Stornoway, Chris's partner and his children, also his parents in Leverburgh, Martin's parents and family in Thurso, and with Lachlan and his family, as he reflects over the tragic loss of his close friends in the sinking.

"We would like to thank the whole community of the Western Isles that has rallied round and offered support at this difficult time.

"We are engaging fully with representatives from Marine Accident Investigation Branch, officers from Police Scotland and the vessel's insurers as they continue their comprehensive investigation into events which occurred into and following the sinking of the Louisa."

More than 300 people have helped raise nearly £10,000 for the daughters of Chris Morrison.
