A flotilla of boats is searching for a fisherman lost at sea when his ship went down in the Outer Hebrides.

Skipper Paul Alliston, 42, remains missing after the sinking of the Louisa near Mingulay, south of Barra, on Saturday.

Chris Morrison, 27, and Martin Johnstone, 29, both died while Lachlan Armstrong, 27, survived after swimming to shore when their life raft failed to inflate.

Around 130 people scoured the shoreline on Mingulay, Sandray, Berneray and Pabbay on Thursday, while 30 boats searched miles out to sea.

Fishermen travelled from across the Western Isles to join the search. Duncan and Murdo Kennedy, owners of the Lousia, were among those taking part.

On Wednesday, they spoke of their "devastation" at the loss of their crew.

They said: "Our thoughts, sympathy and prayers are with Paul's family in Stornoway, Chris's partner and his children, also his parents in Leverburgh, Martin's parents and family in Thurso, and with Lachlan and his family, as he reflects over the tragic loss of his close friends in the sinking."
