A series of events are being held to mark the 270th anniversary of the Battle of Culloden.

The Culloden Battlefield and Visitor centre is hosting the events, run by the National Trust for Scotland and Gaelic society of Inverness.

On Friday, new archaeological discoveries relating to the Jacobite uprisings will be discussed.

Saturday, which marks the battle's anniversary, sees pipers from the Highland Youth Pipe Band open a procession to the battlefield before a service is held.

Talks and discussions will be held at the centre following the memorial.

The battle on April 16 1746 marked the end of Prince Charles Stuart's Jacobite uprising. Highland forces and their allies were routed by forces of the British Government under the command of the notorious Duke of Cumberland.

Between 1500 and 2000 Jacobites died on the battlefield, with 50 Government troops killed.
