Thieves destroyed five golf buggies by "using them as bumper cars" on a Highland course.

The carts, worth around £25,000 in total, were taken at Grantown Golf Course on Monday night.

Club professional Lewis Ware said the buggies appear to have been driven through bunkers and across fairways.

He said: "We have a little bit of course damage but our buggies have been totally wrecked. They were used as bumper cars, turned over and written off. It's mainly the edges of bunkers that have been damaged.

"The buggies are designed not to damage the grass so luckily no greens have been damaged but there have been chunks taken out of bunkers where they've driven through them. There was one broken flagpole."

Police Scotland have appealed for anyone with any information to contact officers on 101.
