A butcher's dummy that has stood outside a shop for more than 30 years is facing the chop after a council demanded its removal.

Highland Council has contacted Duncan Fraser and Son on Queensgate in Inverness, telling the shop the outsized statue causes an obstruction to pedestrians.

It is now threatening the business with a £2500 fine if the dummy is not removed.

A council spokeswoman said the move comes after "concerns were raised" from members of the public.

She added any businesses wishing to place advertising outside their premises must apply through formal channels.

Inverness Business Improvement District, which represents local firms, said it now hopes to arrange a meeting with council officials to help resolve the issue.
