A drug dealer was arrested after crashing his car during a 100mph pursuit.

Adil Nolan was snared during a large-scale police operation to stem the flow of heroin into the Highlands.

The 30-year-old had initially raced off in his car when police tried to stop him in the village of Dores on the banks of Loch Ness in November 2015.

As he drove at excessive speeds on the tight, single lane road he was seen throwing drugs out of the car's window.

Nolan eventually ploughed into an Audi after losing control of his vehicle.

Officers arrested him and seized £115,000 of heroin.

Nolan, of Liverpool, was held having been quizzed months earlier when he was found with more than £9000 of cash and a number of mobile phones.

He appeared at the High Court in Glasgow on Thursday, when he pleaded guilty to a number of charges including being concerned in the supply of heroin and dangerous driving.

It emerged Nolan already had previous drugs convictions in a criminal record Judge Lady Rae branded "appalling".

She locked him up for a total of eight years, describing the value of the drugs as "substantial".

The judge added he could have killed someone while fleeing from police in the high-speed chase.

Three other men caught during the same probe also admitted to the drugs charge.

John Divers, 31, of Inverness, as well as Liverpudlians Jamie Lally and James Johnson, both 21, were remanded in custody pending sentencing in July.
