A Commonwealth judo star seriously injured in a motorbike crash has returned home to Scotland.

Stephanie Inglis, from Inverness, was pulled from a motorcycle taxi in Vietnam when her skirt became caught in a wheel on May 12.

The athlete, who won silver at the Glasgow 2014 games, was originally given a 1% chance of survival but her condition has since improved.

She emerged from an induced coma last week and was flown to Edinburgh Airport from Bangkok on Monday afternoon. Her journey included stops in India, Georgia and Austria.

A family friend said Ms Inglis smiled when her parents told her she would be going home.

The sports star had been on her way to work teaching English in Ha Long when the accident happened.

Thousands of supporters donated more than £300,000 to pay for Ms Inglis' medical care after it emerged that her travel insurance would not cover her bills.

The donations have helped to fund her treatment, her transfer to hospital in Bangkok and her journey back to Scotland.
